Warm-up Exercises
I provide students with easy vocal exercises that will build relaxation, strength, breath control, technique, and confidence! These are used at the beginning of each lesson, as well in the student’s practice sessions at home.
Theory
Providing my students a basic knowledge in reading musical notes and notations is my primary goal. Although singing is absolutely enjoyable all by itself, the ability to read and write music is an important skill for all musical endeavors. So while I will never spend extensive time on theory, it will be present in its proper measure and use.
Repertoire
The best part: learning new songs! The number, style, length, and complexity of the songs I assign will be entirely dependent on the student’s skill level, practice habits, and (of course) preference. And yes: students are welcome to bring song suggestions to the lesson.
Weekly Practice Expectations
Consistent and accurate practice is a non-negotiable in music, no matter the instrument. To assist younger students in getting into the discipline of daily (or almost daily) practice, I provide a clear and doable practice chart for each student, outlining practice expectations. I am happy to check in with the student and parent each week to assess how practice is going.
